Proteins and seeds

Oilseeds are traded for a number of reasons. The main oilseeds dealt from our firm are: rapeseed, safflower seed, sunflower seed, sesame seedSoybean, which is the most traded oilseed, has been grown as a commercial crop mainly in temperate ecologies for thousands of years. Initially it was cultivated in northern Asia and in recent decades in North America and in countries of the Southern Cone of Latin America. The soybean is one of the richest and cheapest sources of protein and is a staple in the diets of people and animals in numerous parts of the world.Nearly all soybeans are processed for their oil. Soy processors take the raw soybeans and separate the oil from the meal. The oil may be refined for cooking and other edible uses, or sold for biodiesel production or industrial uses. The processors bake the high-protein fiber that is left after the oil is removed and sell it for animal feed.

Pulses are the edible seeds of plants in the legume family. Pulses grow in pods and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recognizes 11 types of pulses: dry beans, dry broad beans, dry peas, chickpeas, cow peas, pigeon peas, lentils, Bambara beans, vetches, lupins and pulses nes.

Pulses are great to add to your diet, because they are high in protein and fibre, low in fat and cheap to buy. That means they can save you money, help you manage your weight and lower your risk of bowel cancer. In addition, they are good for the environment too. They do not need much water or fertilizer, and they even improve the soil for other crops.

EG Merchants is involved in the sourcing, shipping and financing of pulses, oils and oilseeds. We are open to cooperation with cooperatives and farmers to boost exports of oils, oilseeds and pulses
